Facebook, of course, is not just any website. Since its creation in a Harvard dorm a little over 6 years. Mark Zuckerberg it’s creator has acquired 500 million active users worldwide. Leaving behind the sins of Facebook in the beginning this model may be the fastest growing company in history. But like everything that becomes popular quickly it is often criticized in many ways.

When Facebook began in the year 2004 it was designed only for people in Harvard University. Then the site expanded to other schools almost overnight. Then in 2005 high school students and adults started to use the site. By 2006 Facebook was the place to be online, with about two-thirds of its members at age 26. The international growth has also been amazing overall with middle-aged women as the majority of users.

The owner is always trying new things and features to see how the site performs. Many of these changes were not received in a good manner, since they affect how the users control their private data on the site. One of these changes happened recently. The change involved displaying the list of friends each user had. These resulted in many people leaving the site and stopped using the service.

Many people don’t always agree with the changes the site makes. But, even with some setbacks the site continues to grow each year. Other changes had been accepted in a positive way like live news feed and other features. The news feed and like button were some of the most popular things everyone knows about Facebook. Today Facebook is defined as major source to meet people and do business.

Back in the day Friendster was built with the purpose to help people socialize. Myspace one time was popular and built around the same concept. But, Facebook took it to a whole new level, building the most powerful worldwide communication tool on the internet today. Myspace and Friendster did not stood a chance with the technology and sophistication implemented with Facebook. It is clear to see why this social network has stood the test of time and passed every obstacle they ever encounter and it continues to grow today.
